Who are carers?
Carers are defined as: “any person, adult or child, who provides unpaid support to a partner, relative or friend who couldn’t manage to live independently or whose health or wellbeing would deteriorate without this help. This could be due to frailty, disability or serious health condition, mental ill health or substance misuse.” (Supporting Carers: An action guide for general practitioners and their teams. 2nd ed.2011; London, RCGP)
We want to know if you are a carer
We would like you to let us know if you are a carer, as we will be able to offer you enhanced services and support, understanding the pressures and challenges that you may experience as a carer.
For example we offer carers:
- enhanced access and flexibility of appointments to make it easier for you to access healthcare
- health checks to monitor physical and mental health
- free annual influenza immunisation
How you can let us know
Please call, email or visit the practice to identify yourself as a carer.

You can also self-refer for a range of local support and services for carers provided by Redbridge Carers.
Carers can also register and find useful resources at Carers UK.
The Loxford Practice held a successful coffee morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. The event was well attended and we managed to raise £165, all of which will be donated to Macmillan. See pictures from the event below.
Members of staff and patients contributed on the day, either by bringing in shop bought cakes or by making them at home themselves. Wherever the cakes came from, they were greatly enjoyed by all staff, patients and local residents.
Macmillan is one of the world’s largest cancer support charities and AT Medics are extremely thankful to both Macmillan and all staff who helped to make this event possible. Click here to find out more about Macmillan and to organise your own coffee morning.
